Meet The Team
Jeff Severinghaus
Jeff Severinghaus is an Emeritus Professor of Geosciences at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He studies climate history using trapped air in ice cores from Antarctica and Greenland to understand past and future climate. He has conducted field research in Antarctica for 12 seasons and in Greenland for 8 seasons, and is an avid lover of the outdoors including Anza-Borrego State Park. Recently, he has been tracing the ancient shorelines of Lake Cahuilla, which existed around 1600 CE in what is now the Salton Sea Basin, and which was 4 times larger in area than the Salton Sea. He has a background in Geology (MA, UC Santa Barbara) and Geochemistry (PhD, Columbia University). View his profile here.
